Within a decade, technical diving has moved from being the preserve of extremists to become a mainstream but specialized in the field. The rationale behind technical diving has been reached only after passing through a series of challenges and control in the past. At the end of 1980 International Association of Nitrox Technical Divers became the first specialized technical training center, marking a revolution in diving.
For the recreational diver, the limit of diving depth to 40 m. and divers must surface directly into a course without restrictions. However, technical divers enjoy unlimited depth and scuba diving you may need to re-emerge along a narrower path, as in the technical cave diving.
Shipwreck dive, the diver also challenges capacity to cope with unstable conditions and labyrinthine corridors in an accident. After a deep dive, the diver's body has absorbed a large amount of inert gas (mostly nitrogen). There is a danger that threatens life on the surface without following a proper process of decompression during ascent.
Technical diving is a relatively risky, therefore, the training course follows stricter rules when students admission. The instructor has the right to reject unsuitable candidates in courses such as cave diving and technical diving re-breather. Generally, students participating basic courses in technical diving must have at least two to three years of diving experience, perhaps even as certified instructors recreational diving.
The main difference between recreational divers and technical divers is not his experience or value, but their mentality. Recreational divers are happy to swim over coral and fish while technical divers are eager to test their limits. At a depth of 300 feet, the diver's personality, mind and technology are clear under massive stress. Even a small mistake can lead to results without control in this environment. Therefore, psychological fitness is even more important than the physical fitness for a technical diver.
How to choose an agent of technical diving training? There are about five international training centers in Hong Kong, including the agent IANTD and PADI Foundation. Several points should be considered when selecting a training center: the availability of equipment and level, emphasis on procedures reasonable and proper training, the experience of technical diving instructors, and the opinions of alumni. The course structure of a technical diving course is similar to a recreational that everyone starts from a basic level, even if you are a qualified instructor or experienced diver. The course of deep diving techniques consists of three levels different under the PADI and IANTD systems.
The basic course is called Advanced Nitrox Diver (IANTD) or Apprentice Tech Deep Diver (PADI). It teaches the student benefits, risks and proper procedures for diving at a depth of 45m high in oxygen for decompression. This limit is deeper than recreational scuba diving is. It is important to strictly follow the time stops and safety procedures for coating, otherwise decompression sickness (the bends) could result. If a diver spends 30 minutes at a depth of 45m, which will need an extra 40 minutes for decompression.
After completing the basic course, Students can go to the Technical Nitrox Diver (IANTD) or Tec-Deep Diver (PADI). In this course, students dive as deep as 55 meters with two tanks of oxygen-rich (a pure oxygen) for decompression. The diving depth of 30 minutes to 55 will require another 50 minutes for decompression. Apart from the practice of diving depth, the student studies the bottom impact and high pressure on the diver and the psychological changes and work on improving posture and buoyancy control technique.
The final course is Trimix Diver. The diver uses a combination of low oxygen, high and low nitrogen gas mixtures of helium to a dive of 80 meters. This gas mixture is essential for a deep dive as air at ordinary pressure negative sites in the body of diving to depths of over 55m. The 21% the air after the depth of 55m the diver will conrulse and even lose consciousness – this is Toxcity oxygen. Improper use of trimix gases, however, also cause problems, therefore, specialized training is a necessity.
All technical diving courses include lectures, pool work and practice of deep water. The teacher to student ratio is much lower than in the recreational diving courses in which a driving instructor 3-4 students and the proportion is even stricter for some courses, to account for the more complicated nature of the course.
Technical Diving is still a risky activity, technology and experience gained from technical diving can feed back into recreational diving to improve the standard of security for the entire diving industry.
